To begin with, India uses PAL as the broadcast standard. At the same time, countries like the United States use NTSC. This means that the power grid in the United States has a frequency of 60 Hz. While in India, the frequency of current flowing through the power grid is 50 Hz.

So while video shot at 30fps or 60fps may look decent in the US, you'll notice noticeable flickering when recording in the same mode under artificial lighting in India. This is because the light frequency is lower than the camera frame rate as shown in the video below.

Steps to Remove Video Flickering Issue on iPhone Running iOS 14.3

To remove video flicker under artificial light sources, you need to synchronize the frame rate of your camera to the frequency of the AC power that the lights are plugged into.

To do this, you need to shoot at 25 or 50 fps. Fortunately, With the new iOS 14.3 update, Apple introduced PAL formats for videos. Using the same, you can record 25 fps videos on your iPhone and get rid of the light flicker as shown below.

  1. Update to iOS 14.3 if you haven't already. Then open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll to Camera. Tap on it.
  3. Click on Record a video.
  4. Activate the toggle for Show PAL formats.
  5. Now select the HD 1080p at 25 fps (PAL) ou 4K at 25 fps (PAL).

That's it. Your iPhone will no longer show the flickering effect in video while you are recording indoors under artificial lighting. However, note that you're shooting at 25 fps, which won't appear as smooth as 60 fps footage.
