How to keep the driver's license on your smartphone and download an electronic copy

You can keep your driver's license on your smartphone or download its electronic copy instead of physically carrying it. The government has provided an option to help you keep your driver's license registered on your phone or get its electronic copy through DigiLocker or the mParivahan app. This is especially useful if you forget to carry the physical copy of your driver's license. In addition, keeping your driver's license stored on your smartphone helps prevent its hard copy from getting lost or stolen.

In 2018, the government passed a notice for states to accept driver's license and vehicle registration stored in DigiLocker and the mParivahan app. This decision was intended to eliminate the need to carry physical versions of documents while driving.

Here's how to keep the driver's license on your smartphone or download its electronic copy.
